I think it is unfair to characterize the statements from the AT students as "not wanting those kids in their school." They are rightfully concerned about program changes that may alter their access to courses and administration of the school with separate administrators and pathways being proposed. The county has not been clear on this throughout the short and rushed proposal process. Kids at AT give up a lot when they choose a non-comprehensive program (in areas of arts/music/sports) and it's reasonable for them to want to preserve the benefits they get. They are not asking for restricted access for Langston students (they can already take classes at ACC just like all APS students) but it is fair to want to guarantee continued availability for AT students, especially those who are in the middle of the program.
that's fine but a few pages ago people were claiming no one at AT was opposed at all, or that they would stop their opposition if langston wanted to come. and that's not what is happening at all.
So the AT kids did not express concern about the Langston kids coming?
You think some teenager is going to stand up in public and announce “i don’t want those kids and adults” at our school? Not only social suicide, but paints a target on your back for when schools are merged.
LOL. Stop digging. We know you’re full of shit.
I have no dog in this fight, I just think expecting students to speak up on this issue is a ridiculous bar and not worth discussing. The Board should be evaluating the impact on potential students, as this drama and fluid changing of the program may depress future enrollment. Those parents are certainly not being engaged.
DP, but often, those impacted down the line by these decisions aren't really paying attention. I started looking at middle and high school options when DC was in 3rd grade, but in my parent cohort, most families didn't start thinking about it until 5th grade when the lottery opened up, unless they had older siblings. It's hard to engage people when the decision is so far away.
