Right. I mean, if you want an IB program that has only the most academically motivated or high-scoring or highly-graded kids - DCI isn't for you. That's just not the school it was ever meant to be or claimed it was. It's a public charter school with IB for all, open to all. It can be, and is, high quality in lots of other ways, and lots of kids do get IB diplomas, score high, etc. Whether your kid does is dependent on your kid and how much they take advantage of the opportunities they have. As a DCI high school parent (kid went to DCI middle school too) of a motivated/high-scoring/high-grades kid, it's also important to me that they have the opportunity to go to school with an incredible cross-section of DC kids. Amen. We declined the offer of family money to send our kids to private schools, precisely because we didn't want to insulate them from the world. They have come out of DCI with everything we'd hoped for-- a good education, strong language skills, good test scores, good college admissions, and comfort in cultures near (like NE DC) and far (like Senegal).
