Chain yes. Ownership? Who knows. The build out suggests an infusion of money, so you should ask them.
Does 2 locations count as a chain? If so, then TWSB and CityDance could also be considered chains. Or maybe it's just 2 locations in different geographic areas -- I think the Joffrey Ballet School is based in NYC and expanded to Texas, while ABT expanded to California. Chain and PE-funded might be labels better applied to Arthur Murray Dance Studios which has franchise based model, relies on training its teachers in-house (versus hiring trained dancers), and was acquired by Clarion Capital in Dec 2024. Obviously it's not a serious ballet school. As far as I can tell, Master Ballet Academy is a family-owned dance academy -- do you have additional information? I looked at their website -- which includes a long list of dancers they've trained who are currently professionals. I've heard of MBA because they have a strong social media presence, their dancers do well at YAGP competitions, and they have a relationship with Phoenix Ballet. My guess is MBA's financial health has been supplemented by their success on social media along with a robust school year program and elite (pricey) summer intensives. I appreciate DCUrbanMoms but hate the trolls!
