Is its reputation as a no-fun school warranted, compared to similar STEM institutions? 
And is its Baltimore location really unsafe? We drive to Baltimore every weekend for youth orchestra, and while certain areas are terribly rundown and depressing, others are pretty nice.

Yes, Charles Village is very nice, but it is a city location. And while Baltimore has many charms ( see what I did there) it has many challenges as well. Kids who grew up in Philly, NYC, or DC proper would generally not bat an eyelash. If your idea of an urban environment is Vienna, VA, Hopkins, or MICA or UMD Law might be a bit of an adjustment.
