If this happens, the entire system would be upended. 60% of FHS students live in the county. If the relationship ended, the city would likely have to sell the building and move to something much smaller. And given the number of county kids that wouldn't have a base school, FCPS would probably be the buyer and the boundary readjustment would make the current BRAC look like a day in the park. The city would have to build a full infrastructure for their schools with the same amount of money or massively raise taxes. It would be a disaster (in different ways) for both sides.[/quote]

In the past both the city and county benefitted from the relationship but Fairfax City periodically tells FCPS to kick county kids out of the city schools and FCPS obliges.  Now with declining enrollments and FCPS adding capacity they may be in a position in the not too distant future to tell Fairfax City to run their own system.  No one on the county cares if Fairfax City has to raise taxes if county kids get to attend closer schools and not FHS. [/quote]

They don't but FCPS gets paid per student they "manage" from the City. I'm not sure the lawsuit/bodyguard budget could take that kind of hit.[/quote]
