I'd say - don't leave that dog unattended, even for brief period. Closed doors or crate when you're preoccupied with work. Leash would also work (I'd look into hands free/running ones that you attach to the belt). With Goldens - you just need to do more (games, teaching tricks, puzzle feeders, etc in addition to what you're doing already), they have soo much energy to burn.
+1 OMFG, crate the dog! This is a vet emergency waiting to happen. Take dog out to do business, actively play with dog, let dog drag leash around house while you supervise, offer snacks/water, put dog back in crate if you're not 100% watching so you can immediately correct any behaviors you don't like, such a chewing. If you catch dog chewing, give your reprimand cue and then immediately redirect to something it's okay to chew. You need to train your dog. That's all.
. Illegal in certain countries and very frowned upon even when it’s legal
The only reasons this would ever be "very frowned upon" would be people misusing it to cage their animals instead of using it as a proper training tool. There's nothing unkind or unpleasant for the dog about being put in its safe den as described above. If it's illegal in "certain countries (citation needed), that's probably for the same reason it's illegal to leave your dog tied to a stake outside. It's not being done humanely as a training device, it's being done by lazy af idiots who probably shouldn't own dogs in the first place.
Don’t you have Google? Finland, Sweden, Spain, Germany all ban crating. Many other places culturally find it highly distasteful. I recognize your angry outburst style. Why don’t you go back to your pit bull rescues and leave this chain to grownups who can write without insulting others?
You're incorrect. Crates aren't "banned" in any of the countries you listed, and crates are sold in all those countries. They're better regulated, with specifications given for crate size and duration of time crated. Those regulations are compatible with proper crate training practices. Honestly, those practices should be applied here in the states, too. As for your need to make it personal, that's about you. You're the blameposter who always thinks (allegedly) knowing who posted is more important than following the thread. Major main character syndrome.
