I think the triggering moment when Colbert fired himself from his unfunny show was when he very publicly used  his platform and accused his employers of bribing Trump via the CBS settlement.

I know of no employer anywhere who would not immediately terminate an employee who directly and falsely accuse their employee of a felony. And Colbert even got about a year worth of a notice period.[/quote]
