I know the Walkinshaw is almost 100% likely to win, but isn't it a little presumptuous to have a slick website out before the seat is certain to be open? I don't think Moon has an election website out yet. But, the GOP would be smart to find a decent candidate, because I don't see any School Board member being a popular choice.
The Democrats are running based on the assumption that Walkinshaw will win and need to vacate his BOS seat. It’s hard for a Republican to announce now because they’d also have to assume Walkinshaw will defeat his GOP opponent. Even so, if the GOP can find a moderate candidate in the John Cook mold to run in Braddock, they’d have a good chance. Moon comes across as senile now and Rachna is a total narcissist. And both are complicit in the current boundary study mess, especially Rachna. Neither deserves a seat on the BoS.
I've lived in Braddock District for a long time. I have neighbors active in FCRC and while some of them are reasonable and interesting people, some of them are crazy. And they can never, ever find anyone non-crazy to run. I hate it, because we need 2 functioning parties in Fairfax County. Anyone want to step up?
It's hard to say. On the one hand, the GOP is largely Trump's party now, and hugely unpopular in Fairfax. On the other hand, the GOP should attract better alternatives to the likes of Moon and Sizemore-Heizer, neither of whom deserve to serve on the BOS, if they think they have a better chance of winning. When others think the FCDC-endorsed candidates have a lock on local elections, they aren't likely to run, which makes it even more likely the GOP-endorsed candidates who do emerge are going to be weird extremists. In any event, it's hard to see why Moon or Sizemore-Heizer should be rewarded for their time on the School Board with a seat on the BOS. Moon seems senile now, and Rachna is one of the biggest narcissists to serve on the School Board in recent memory. Megan McLaughlin would have been a better alternative.
I don’t think Moon is senile. He is older, but during the school board meetings I saw, he was trying to advocate that no one ran on boundary review. I think he was the only board member to say something. Given the choice: Trumper/voucher person that the Rs will put up, Rachna who chaired the committee who crafted the boundary policy and Moon, I going with Moon.
Neither Moon nor Sizemore Heizer get a pass here on the boundary issue. He’s voted lockstep with them all, and even if he is not as enthusiastic as she is about unnecessary boundary changes, he’s still complicit. I’m looking forward to expressing my anger with a large check to their opponents, heck I’ll even support a third non-school board Democratic candidate.
I give Moon a pass. Here is why: (From Robin Lady’s Newsletter) First and foremost, I want to update you on the boundary policy work. During our last meeting prior to a brief summer recess, the School Board passed Boundary Policy 8130. Prior to voting on it, several board members proposed amendments to the phasing in the original draft. Ricardy Anderson and Melanie Meren proposed that the phasing include the following: Two years in elementary school (grades 5 and 6) Full phasing in middle school (no movement) Full phasing in high school (grades 10-12) Unfortunately, only Mr. Moon, Dr. Anderson, Ms. Meren, and I voted for all three of these amendments. On the contrary, Kyle McDaniel and Rachna Sizemore Heizer proposed a limited phasing of ONLY the final year at each level. You are welcome to “express your anger” and establish even worse policies. Maybe you have zero issues with book banning, white washing history, or school vouchers, etc. Weighing where we are, Moon is a better choice. Clearly, you have money. I don’t, so I’m sure you think your opinion is worth more than mine. Go democracy ;(
"Book banning" means keeping books from being published and available. These books are available. However, the books that were discussed are inappropriate and do not belong in school curriculum or libraries. I suggest you go look at the three books that were brought to the Supreme Court from Montgomery County. "white washing history" is not being suggested by anyone. However, people do object to "white privilege" and things like including military kids in "privilege bingo" being promoted in the schools. Spending tens of thousands of dollars for administrators to listen to Ibraheem Kendi is also a huge misuse of funds. But, if you think that is okay, stick with Moon and Rachna. "School vouchers" are not dependent on our school board. However, people are getting the equivalent of school vouchers" from Fairfax County becuase of suits against them from families of special education students.
Take your moms for liberty shit to Oklahoma where schools are ranked at the. Bottom nationally MOCO books you didn’t read them you pos they were fine. Banning books so the religious right can indoctrinate in public schools is wrong period l what gives you the right to tell other parents in a public school setting what their kids can read ? Screw off you racist garbage School vouchers do not work we are not using our tax dollars so you who can not afford your religious indoctrination centers with little oversight You want your kid indoctrinated and surrounded by pedos again with no over sight have at it th3 rest of us care about our kids education
Wow. Clearly your values are different from most. Most people don't want books that tell kids that the doctor "guesses" their gender at birth and sometimes makes a mistake. They also don't love books that promote drag queens and Pride parades. (Thankfully, they did not include some of the things you do see at Pride parades.) And, you don't have problems with FCPS having to pay out $$$$$ because they were not properly providing for Special Ed kids? And, no. Definitely not Moms for Liberty here. But, even a broken clock is right twice a day.
