My teens are/were at well-regarded MCPS public high schools, where kids need to take all the hardest APs to stand out. The MCPS magnet kids not only check the magnet box, but since they don't have AP courses in their curriculum, they also self-study and take the AP exams on the side! It's a crazy arms race over here.
