OP here again. We have a super complicated financial situation going on full mess - self employed, pre nup, SN kids and more. That's the route I wanted to go because we have complex finances. Ex refused to entertain the idea at all so now we're litigating. Not my choice but I have to go along with it. What’s the difference between collaborative divorce and mediation with lawyers?  It is just minus the mediator?  This sounds like a good option for a complicated situation.

He was able to give me a lot of helpful instructions today, but a lot is still up in the air with us waiting for my partner to initiate things [/quote] With collaborative you agree from the get-go that you will not litigate the case and if do decide to litigate you are back to square one and need to hire new attorneys. In the collaborative process, they often bring in a forensic accountant. They will also bring in mental health specialists which I found very appealing. Ex wanted nothing to do with this approach. Too bad. He's paying for it all. And a judge might just tell him to get therapy anyway![/quote]
