Which of these openings is most desirable for a new head coach? And which coaches (asst or other head coaches) do you realistically think would take these openings?
Assuming your talking about the OC at Bullis, the HC at SSSA, HC at Dematha and the HC at St Mary's, as the main ones that are out there so far. Lots of other rumors about some of the other WCAC and IAC potentially making changes too. Sticking with those 4 for right now, it probably depends on where you are in life and where you live. Maryland side of DC, Dematha and St Mary's are probably more your targets. VA side Bullis and SSSA. Want to show immediate growth and changes in the program, SSSA probably has more immediate possibilities. Bullis is hard in that you're waiting on someone to leave and post-25 class is ugly for them. Dematha is just a tough sell. St Mary's is competing with Spalding and the MIAA. Again, its really gonna depend on can you build a program or do you want to inherit a program.
Are people counting the Bullis OC job as an opening? The HC jobs at DeMatha, SSSA, and St. Mary's probably all have some flexibility with full time positions at the schools with them. Not sure the same goes for Bullis OC unless Bellistri is trying to get a HC in waiting. As other poster said, all the HC jobs come with question marks: 1) SSSA: Can they keep or rebuild connection with Alexandria youth? Will the new coach be able to get a bunch of kids in for his second year? 2) DeMatha: Can they keep local talent from heading around the beltway? Are they serious about competing with Gonzaga, SJC, and the seemingly rising GC? 3) St. Mary's: Does any coach in the DMV have the connections to recruit in Annapolis? Is Spalding locking down all the private school talent there now? For all of them: what are they offering for compensation and staff support? It needs to make financial sense and have some room to build a staff, not just be a higher profile job for a good coach to move. Local coaches who might be interested: Ince (OC at SJC) has already been mentioned and is an obvious candidate. Well dialed into the club scene and an effective recruiter, had success at SJC, pedigree having played at UVA. Tucker at St. James has turned that team into a much better program in a hurry with boarders but may not have the DMV recruiting connections and is older. Mitchell at The Heights could follow big brother in making a jump to a higher profile program. Kubick (OC at Landon) has come back to his old form after returning to high school coaching with the Bears a few years ago. Has coached great offenses at Prep and Landon, might want to do something different than work at Mater Dei and be an assistant.
