So what do we do if we're rejected for prek? We applied to 6 schools. I feel like two of them are being cold - maybe all in my head but not getting a super warm vibe. 2 are really warm, 1 isn't either warm or cold. If it's impossible for everyone but teacher's kids, alumni, and other people with a hook, then what do we do? Keep applying every year? The goal is to be in a k-12 private ASAP because I do not want to do this for high school (I mean, I will if the school no longer works for my kid but want the stay the course option as an insurance policy).
In our experience, warmth had nothing to do with admission/rejection outcome. Sidwell was by far the nicest warmest admission team. They answered every single email right away, responded to thank you notes; etc. DD was rejected (not even waitlisted). BVR was middle of the road (though we got good comments from our preschool director after the playdate… they adimission teams talk). DD was accepted. Maret was a long shot… they were very nice, but DD was waitlisted.
+1. School warmth is like getting a response to your thank you note after a job interview. It’s nice but it’s never been meaningful in my experience. Some admissions directors are just better at responding to emails.
