Parent of a 3rd grader who was new to FCPS this year. No NNAT only COGAT scores - composite 130 with the highest section score being 139. I found out today that his GBRS was 9, which I think was probably contributed heavily to the decision of the committee to not place him in AAP. Should we appeal? Or will the GBRS weigh him down anyway?
He has a shot if you appeal with a high WISC.
Ok, I guess we will give it a shot with the WISC. Should we also submit additional work samples - would that help at all? Looking for inputs of parents who have appealed successfully in the past.
I've not had to appeal, but for both of my kids who made it in on parent referral and not test scores, I submitted several at home work samples for both kids. Take a picture of an art project and tell why the child made it; photograph a lego creation that isn't made from directions. Talk about language your child uses at home if it's above average from his/her peers. I put all that kind of stuff in my referral, and while some here will say that makes me a crazy over the top parent (and maybe it does), my view is that it is so hard for any reviewer to have a holistic picture of a child with just two or three test scores and whatever the school says.... While you wouldn't get in on appeal with only the parent info, including that with a WISC score wouldn't hurt, I don't think.
