I wouldn't wish that hell on anyone, to be honest.
This is something that people need to think about. Do you have any idea how hard it must be to live your life feeling like you were born in the wrong body? I'm not talking about how I wish I was born with a smaller chest or a daintier nose. I'm pretty sure almost none of you know how it feels to live your life in a body that, on the outside, doesn't match what is on the inside. I don't even completely understand it, but I don't have to personally experience it to have compassion for someone who does live life with that struggle. Don't you think most trandgendered people have tried NOT to feel like something is wrong? Don't you realize this isn't something someone would choose? Caitlyn's struggle is not over, but at least now maybe she has found a little peace.
THIS! This is the problem I have with people who suddenly "see the light" on social issues..........once it effects them or someone they care about. That's not empathy. Empathy is the bolded above. While it is not always the case, we've seen this among those who pander to a conservative (very) base in public office. They condemn some particular issue up, down and sideways, make it their work to block someone else's access to equal rights while it is politically prudent for them to do so, so that they may stay in office or whatever and then BAM, but wait, my dear nephew Jimmy just came out. But, but, but Jimmy is a good kid, he loves his parents, he loves baseball. All these people talking about bad gay people, they can't be talking about my dear boy Jimmy, they don't KNOW him. I know him. Maybe it is OK for all those other people to be able to have the legal protections of the union of marriage now because I see that it would be so hard on Jimmy to be discriminated against. I see the light now. Nevermind all the people I hurt along the way.
