All this brouhaha because the ED is trying to make DCI's reality match DCI boosters' fantasy of a high-performing HS with a good IB program
And because there is a group of staff and parents that have organized and keep pressuring others to write emails and get involved. This is a well organized campaign, with templates, talking points, etc that keep pushing their version of reality while the school is doing their investigation.
If this is all just a biased campaign, can someone share any positive outcomes the ED has delivered since he came on board? Anything?
Sure! Again, a quick search of actual data shows that the school improved on Empower K12's DC School Accountability Dashboard by 17 points from 23-24 (when he took over as full time ED) to 24-25, which was the second highest growth among MS/HS combos (out of 7 schools) and top 20% improvement in DC overall. This may be an imperfect measure, but it shows he's at least done something right: https://www.empowerk12.org/dc-accountability-scores-dashboard. But again, doesn't fit the biased narrative...
Oops - the period accidentally posted in the link: https://www.empowerk12.org/dc-accountability-scores-dashboard
These types of changes take a few years to happen. I would not credit the ED solely and would argue the previous leaders had a lot to do with it. What this ED has done is bring more focus to IB scores and raising the average academic performance. In a few years, DCI will be the best high school in DC for all kids, not just the superstars who would do well anywhere. That is, if they let him.
