And no one goes into the backcountry without a little bit of extra food (at least some protein bars), so it's extremely unlikely they were in a desperate situation. All the known facts suggest that they just didn't view the situation as higher than typical risk. Even the fact that they were bunched together when the avalanche occurred. If they did, there are things they would have done differently.[/quote]
