There was a more humane solution but ICE preferred to detain the child. “School board member Mary Granlund said she was on the scene and told immigration officials she could take Liam Ramos, but they still detained him.” https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cwyrrqwxpz7o
You can't just hand over a child to someone because they asked for them. If you were taken to jail for whatever reason, should the police give your kid to a school board member?
what? A child is not going to prison with their parents if they committed a crime.. did the father have an opportunity to place a child with another adult? Actions/policies need to be protective of the child..
No he did not. Just like if any US local law enforcement arrests a parent, that child can't just go home with anyone who asks for them. There are procedures, none of which include a school board member.
Yes, typically these are jump out the bushes, operations, and the person would be given an opportunity to turn themselves in but since he hadn't been charged with anything and no warrant was issued, I suppose they didn't think to call child protective services, so that a social worker could take the child into a very temporary foster home, 100% no one is hauling a child who is here legally, as this child was, off to prison with his parent. Even if the parent committed a crime which this parent didn't, they would still call in child services to take custody of the child. Until the other parent or closest relative could be contacted. True story. I had a medical emergency there was no other family available to call who could be at my house in quick order, and DH was traveling and couldn't be reached. 100% the paramedics were fine with me leaving my son with a neighbor while I sought medical treatment, For, what it's worth, had I died, or had I been hospitalized for an extended period of time, a family member couldn't be reached the next step would have been foster care. Again, you people are delusional if you still don't get that the cruelty is the point. Your dear leaders are belatedly starting to figure out that kidnapping chubby faced toddlers in fuzzy bunny ear hats and shooting people in the face isn't a cruelty that the average American will accept. It just makes for very bad optics. So, question is why do you? What's in it for you? Is someone paying you to turn a blind eye. i can understand greed, it abhorrent, but I get it. What I don't get is what kind of monster t ries to look for ways to make this okay. You people are nuts.
You are the one that is nuts. Had they called CPS, you would be accusing them of separating the child from the parents. IOW - they can't win in your eyes.
Calling CPS, a non-law enforcement agency would have been the right thing to do. They would have reached out to find the other parent. And this child would be in his mother's warm embrace right now. Or they could have also followed the law and not done a jump out the bushes, gorilla style assault on the father, they could you know followed the law, but I guess it's to late for that. So instead of being at home tucked in with his mom. He's in a cold hard prison in Texas. How much do you think all of this is going to cost us, all of this violating people's rights, you know all of this will come out at some point and much like family separation a lot of money will be paid out in damages for these abuses. People are going to jail. Trump won't have time to pardon them all while he's lying on his death bed. And when he finally dies, Repubs just might be ready to wash the stink off. Yep, gobs and gobs of monies will be disbursed and lots of folks are going to jail. It's going to be ugly I tell you, they will wish they'd just followed the law when all is said and done.
What kind of mother hides in the house and watches her child be taken away? Wouldn't you follow your kid to hell itself so they wouldn't be frightened and alone?
What kind of monsters put a mother in that situation, what kind of monsters, monsters who control all fo the cards treat a child as a weapon, and then cart that baby off to a 2025 Concentration Camp. I tell you what it reminds me of Nazi Germany. The problem is that you aren't asking the right questions. Be ignorant if you want to, but seriously, if they do it to them, what's to stop them doing it to you and yours? They are breaking the law. Ask yourself why they are doing it? And why you are okay with it? Knowing that the most powerful government in the world is violating peoples' basic rights in just an open way. They don't GAF and that doesn't bode well for you or me. The Government is an incredibly powerful entity. They shouldn't have to behave this way to get things done. What's to stop them from turning all of the power on you. They could squish you and your entire family like bugs under their shoes and there would be nothing to stop them, the laws are what stop them, the constitution is what stops them, checks and balances stop them. Being a non-citizen doesn't mean that you don't have rights, this isn't Russia, or some back water dictatorship. If they are violating the rights of citizens and non-citizens openly, cruelly and without remorse, warrantless searches and busting into people's houses without even so much as a no-knock warrant, shooting white people in the face, on the National news every single day, all day long, day in and day out, what rights do any of us have. When none of that works we are all imperiled. That's why you get outraged. Do you think they are going to stop at brown people? You are just too stupid to get that.
My sister in an expat in a country DCUM would like to move to. She is on a spouse visa and mother to citizen children. She still has to file yearly paperwork. She failed to file it one year during a stressful time and what do you think happened? She was detained, thrown in jail, mugshot, separated from her children until it could be resolved legally. How inhumane. Nice countries, that people really want to move to, with free healthcare and good wages, have immigration rules and consequences for not following those rules. Do you think for a second she thought about protesting in the street about being treated so cruelly? Maybe go to the media? Of course not. She was ashamed that she hadn't followed the rules as a guest in that country.
What country? Receipts or you're lying.
Yeah I'm going to post my sister's mugshot online. Unlike these people our family has some dignity left.
What a joke fake story. Political hack much???
