Burden didn’t need to write a book. She chose to write a book. She said her mother had also faced infidelity in her relationships and in her social class women were supposed to just smile, rug sweep and carry on. She wanted to defy that expectation.[/quote]

Defying expectations alone isn’t a great idea. In the Modern Love podcast, she said that a friend asked why she was printing all this. I wouldn’t say this after my friend showed me her by-line, but if she told me about the idea before she published, I would have certainly asked her what she hoped to get out the experience.[/quote]
