A good number of them most likely don’t travel. Therefore, it’s easier to cultivate fears based on what they hear and see on FOX. A MAGA relative heard I visited a certain city this month and his first question was if I was afraid of being mugged. No, I wasn’t. He hasn’t set foot in that city in 20 years and has no intention of ever doing so again, yet, he’s got the inside scoop from FOX.
I grew up in a rural red area and no, they rarely travel. I bust peoples chops and tease them about thinking they need a passport to cross the damn county line FFS. The have little real-world experience.
The actual highest per capita crime rates are in rural Arkansas, Alabama and other southern red states. They think because the absolute numbers are so low that it’s safer…but it is of course divided by a very small population. Admittedly, because these places are so small, the crime is also targeted for the most part…there isn’t opportunity for random robberies…so people feel like they are safe if they don’t have a beef with someone. However, you read all the time about a neighbor shooting their neighbor because of petty squabbles.
