Biden tried to do this and the Supreme Court knocked it down. It was a blanket $10K forgiveness across the board (OR $20k if you were a Pell Grant recipient, aka came from a poor family).

So yeah, he already tried to do this. Biden admin has been forgiving loans according to the current programs allowable by law: 10 years of payments during public service (PSLF); 20 years of repayments for undergrad-only debt; 25 years of repayments for graduate debt; forgiveness of loans from universities that closed or were fraudulent institutions; and forgiveness of loans for people who have "total and permanent disability"[/quote]
