I think this makes sense. Schools like Florida and the UC schools do well at graduating kids of different means throughout their state. I've always thought some schools like Tulane and Northeastern to be overhyped and overpriced. My best friend's daughter goes to Case Western and all her into classes have a few hundred people in them. At that point. why go there over William & Mary, VT, or Maryland? I do wonder if some privates will have trouble with their yield now. And some of the drops are wild - most Washington University and Tufts grads I know are the kind of people to care about rankings so I'm sure the drop will be hard for them.
When all the privates drop in sync, it has very little meaning. People will just take US News less seriously, which is a good thing.
LOL nice try. What it means is the private schools that drop off the cliff were relying to heavily on certain metrics. Any private that can keep its spot or rise as a result of the changes are the ones that should impress. Yes, this list does show which schools were heavily over rated. Good for USN for culling that out. I am the ND booster who noted that it stayed within top 20 (18-20) despite the changes. Everyone thought lack of diversity would severely impact it's standing. I suspect they maintained top 20 due to their generous financial aid, increasing Pell grants, efforts to increase diversity, and the fact that those who do get admitted graduate on time despite ethnic/socioeconomic background. It's a great institution and I am glad this is recognized. Plus their football team is killing it this year :)
