Reagan put in place a stop gap measure everyone knew was a short term fix if you can even call it that. The problem is symptomatic of how dysfunctional politicians are. Now non-border states can understand the problem. Unfounded mandates to track and deport folks isn’t fair, but it’s also not fair to have to fund more folks than we can employ, fees and shelter. Something need to give and allow USCIS to catch up. Waiting in limbo for 5 years or more for papers is ridiculous.[/quote]
