I have a kid at a W school. Honestly, the kids are very supportive of each other...it's the parents that are crazy! you just can't drink the kool aid!
My senior is at Walter Johnson, and honestly, whenever someone says people are racist/entitled/rude/etc at W schools, I just have to laugh. WJ has 3000 students. Sure, some parents may be ambitious and snobby. But the immense majority parent the kids they have, and understand that college is what you make of it. It's really bizarre how some people, who think of themselves as caring, tolerant people, just casually flick off comments on W schools - it's an example of "othering", and in your own community to boot.
oh I suppose the "all non W schools are ganglandia" comment doesn't scream elitism and "othering".
PP you replied to. Except *I* don't make that sort of comment. And the majority of people don't make these comments. People shouldn't react to the worst on the internet by lobing their own firebombs. It's exactly what happens in politics between the right and the left: the majority of people on both sides have no problem with the other side. It's a vocal minority who hurls insults at the other vocal minority, and it contributes to the division in our society. So don't reply in kind. Also, words matter, a lot. There is value to using them accurately and with precision. "Einstein is not as strong academically as Winston Churchill" is an accurate statement. "Einstein? Oh my god! It's an awful school full of gangs!" is rude and untrue. Similarly, "Swastikas have been drawn in multiple Bethesda schools over the years" is factual, whereas "Bethesda has a problem with antisemitism" is entirely untrue (more than half my street is Jewish and we don't feel particularly targeted in any way).
um.. ok.. we'll see if those posters listen to you.
But it’s not actually a fact that Churchill is stronger academically. I think Einstein is stronger in engineering.
