If Kendall is dead, I'm not going to watch anymore-- I think he adds depth and nuance. Without him, it's just going to be a show with no one to root for.
I feel like I exist in a different Succession watching universe. I find Kendall so thoroughly unlikeable and I am almost never rooting for him. Tom, Greg, even Roman and Shiv - I can get on their sides sometimes and hope that they come out on top. But what is it about Kendall that I am missing? I certainly feel for him. He's got mental struggles that even someone without $2 billion in the bank would have a hard time living through. But his choices - and his personality - are all so terrible! Tell me what I'm missing please!!
pp here-- I feel think he at least has a goal to be a better person and get out from under his father's boot. Yeah, he's terrible in so many ways, but he has potential. Shiv and Roman are *only* about pleasing their dad, and the writers have turned Greg into a whiner and worm this season.
But do you really think so? He's still so turned inwards toward his family. It's not like he's broken free and is actually doing his own thing. It seems like his goal is to take his family down (unless it hurts him) - not to actually get out from under his father's boot. He
for pete's sake and never faced a single consequence, thanks to his family's protection! If anyone, Connor seems like the one who is trying to get out from under the parental boot and actually make something of himself. He's a dope and a goof but he is the only one who's not scheming to grab what's left in the pot.
Exactly. As terrible as Logan is, he had a point about that. Kendall wants to think of himself as better than everyone else, but he’s as bad, or worse. Nothing is stopping him from walking away. His “deal” to get out (supposedly) still involves taking an operational chunk of the company, which he had to know his father wouldn’t do. Either he really is too dumb to have figured out how to negotiate with his father or he was just calling Logan’s bluff, and it’s not clear what the writers want us to think. However, if you’ve been in the business world, there are lots of people who don’t know what leverage really is and how to use it, so it’s possible that he really is that dumb. To be a good negotiator, you’ve got to be able to get into the other person’s head, and, if there’s one ongoing theme, it’s that Kendall doesn’t think about anything but himself. He is even incapable of taking advice, even from his lawyer and PR people, not to mention his family.
