The rules were that geographic categories of persons are capitalized (like Asian, Appalachian, Japanese, European) but categories based on color are not (caucasian, white, black). That is probably still true in Strunk & White or elsewhere. However, the Associated Press guidelines did away with the hyphens and requires capital letter for colors when used to identify a racial group. Wokeness. [/quote]
