If you tear down Columbus statues, are you changing the name of Columbus, Ohio? Shouldn't you first eliminate the Columbus Day Federal Holiday? Why in the world are people making this about Italian Americans wanting to assert themselves with WASPs from more than 100 years ago? What about the fraternal Catholic organization, the Knights of Columbus? That isn't just Italians and Republicans.
The Knights of Columbus who were the ones who got the statues and the holiday in the first place? They can take the statutes back to their clubhouses, and take off whatever day they want. Taking down a statue is not a big deal, as we've seen it can be done by amateurs. Changing the name of a city is a little more involved. How about we do the easy things, instead of fighting about them?
