FACTS: from a relative of the victim: Fact: The incident occurred during 8th Period PE in the locker room, the afternoon of Thursday, January 23, 2020. Fact: The school administration and Fairfax County Police Department became aware of the attacks the morning of Friday, January 24, 2020. Fact: Parents were notified of the attacks at 3:54 PM via email on Wednesday January 29, 2020, six minutes before the story broke on NBC4.
This is wholly unacceptable and infuriating if true. This was a violent assault that should have been reported to the police immediately. Shame on FCPS if it wasn’t reported to the police right away. Shame on FCPS for waiting until the knew they were going to be outed by the news before informing parents. These kids should be arrested. I saw one FCPS representative interviewed by the news say that the victim was “ok”. Perhaps the victim is physically ok, but there is no way he is psychologically ok — I wouldn’t be ok if I was attacked in the workplace the way the victim was at school. Imagine if you went to the bathroom at work and were attacked with a dangerous by 3-4 of your colleagues, and then held hostage in the bathroom while tortured by the same colleagues with that weapon, all while other colleagues are laughing and videotaping the incident. What would you do? If you could, you would beat the #*$& out of your colleagues the minute you could, but most likely you would call the police. If FCPS didn’t call the police as soon as they understood that a stun gun was used on a student, they failed miserably.
It was almost an ENTIRE week before the parents of the victim were notified by the school. WTF?
Are you claiming that the school administration and the FCPD were notified several days before the parents of the victim (as opposed to parents generally)? Seems unlikely.
That's what I'm asking. See bolded above. It reads that the victim's parents did not know anything (unless that means the perps) until the following Wednesday, e.g., nearly 1 week later.
This is incorrect. PARENTS means all OTHER PARENTS of Oakton students. Meaning an email went out to all students' parents in the entire school regarding the incident. The victim's parents knew on the day it happened.
