I think of it more as poetic justice. I.e. you weasel your ex out of the family home in the divorce, and then it burns down. Or you leave your wife for your mistress but then the mistress has an affair and dumps you. Or some other circumstance that eerily recalls the original situation, but it rebounds on you in a negative way. Yes, bad things happen to ALL people. But when you drive like an ass and then a mile down the road, your "victim" sees you getting a ticket, man oh man, that is poetic justice or what we colloquially refer to as karma.
Yes bad behavior and decisions have impacted quite a few we've known. The ex inlaw that cheated is now dead as well as the mistress. Both from different diseases. The ex wife is now doing great. Befriended a woman till I realized what a horror show she was. Cheating on her nice husband while he was going through chemo. My husband predicted she would have a awful ending. A year later she got stage 3 lung cancer, same cancer her husband had. She died while he is alive today and doing well. One of my former clients cheated on her husband and neglected her kids. Lost custody and 5 years later her 2nd husband divorced her.
