Apparently "pro-business" is now a slur for certain members of the Democratic Party. As a lifelong Democrat, I fear that this sort of rhetoric will lead to a permanent minority party status: https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/democrats-for-hogan-are-the-tip-of-a-rotten-iceberg/2018/07/27/afa6295e-8f67-11e8-b769-e3fff17f0689_story.html?utm_term=.bfe93914cdb3
It's not a slur, and Jealous is pro-business. Just pro-business in a different way. And Hogan hasn't done much at all to deal with the structural deficit that the State has. If he's so awesome at business and stuff, why hasn't he tackled that?
Jealous is pro-business, just in a different way? What way would that be? His policies would add a significant additional layer of cost for a business v what exists currently, which is already more costly than some surrounding areas, never mind other cheaper parts of the country. How would that make a business thinking of moving more likely to choose MD? Or, how wouldn't that make it more likely businesses currently in MD decide to move? And this is only at the corporate level - his policies would discourage high earners (who pay lots of taxes and also sometimes have a say in where a business will be located) from living in MD because their tax burdens would significantly increase and there would be an even starker divide between MD and VA, and to a degree DC. I know it is vary fashionable to bash businesses these days, but we need to have jobs (and high earners) in the area to flourish, particularly with all the increased spending Jealous would like to enact. Without jobs none of that can happen.
Economies thrive when regular people make more. Not just high earners. Don’t focus on the 5%. Focus on the 95%. From the ground up not the top down. When many people earn just a little more, a lot more money gets spent — boosting and creating new business.
