I live in Europe.  There are plenty of fat people outside of the city center/tourist areas you would have seen on your limited vacations or student trips.  Europeans are rapidly catching up, and as the older generations die off, Europe will soon be as fat as America.

I'm 38 and slimmer than some of my similarly aged European friends here because I am a runner, and they don't really do formal "sport" (but the creeping Western changes that are starting to infiltrate their diet, combined with the rapid expansion of American-type grocery stores, cannot be overcome by the old-time "I just walk a lot" mentality).[/quote]

+1. I travel to Europe a lot but generally try to stay away from the touristy cities. What some people think is a European/American divide is really more of a urban/rural divide. [/quote]
