Let's picture a world where major league baseball was a not for profit organization. Everything would be done for the good of the game only. in this scenario, the league would have even more incentive to preserve successful teams like the Yankees and their legacy. It is not in the best interests of MCPS to "Disappear" one of their most successful schools. It lowers the overall quality of the school system. We at Wootton are not entitled. Let someone else have the new building. Giving it to us would be taking from those who need the new building more. We are fine where we are with minor repairs.
I don't see how you arrive at those conclusions. For an apt analogy "good of the game" would have to mean "in the best interest of all of the individual players." And I don't know how a high concentration of top performers in one place is in the best interest of all of the players, or at least why it would be preferable on that basis. The "overall quality" of the school system is measured by the overall performance of ALL the students.
Ah, so redistribution of “wealth”. It’s not equitable for Wootton to have so many high achieving students. Wootton must be forced to share. Are Wootton students just academic currency to you? Are they pieces you can move around at will in order to achieve some academic utopia across MCPS? They don’t belong to you or MCPS.
PP here and I did not advocate for redistribution of "wealth" or any students and I didn't argue equity. I simply don't see the asserted benefit claimed in the post I responded to from maintaining an existing concentration. That is why I added the last clause about not seeing why it is preferable on that basis.
