Elon labeled NPR as state media even though its content is not controlled by the government and the amount of funding it receives is about 2% of its total budget. Now NPR is leaving. [twitter]https://twitter.com/npr/status/1646138100035272704?s=46&t=kf1qYlCXQnKgUhJWEIu2vg[/twitter]
According to NPR, federal funding is "essential." [twitter]https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1646228701984747521[/twitter]
Getting a tiny piece of federal funding doesn’t make them state media, because the state doesn’t determine content. Also, Elon was too dumb to label VOA state media, when they are literally state media.
Their behavior makes them state media. If they are so heavily inclined to pick a side, then they should get 0 taxpayer dollars.
^ Perfect illustration of right wing mentality toward the media right here Of late, facts and evidence do not support conservative positions, and even less so, MAGA positions - reality itself has a liberal bias, yet the right wing says "they are picking a side." Yet NPR has not actually changed much, not when Biden is in office, not when Trump was in office, not when Obama was in office - yet somehow they are supposedly a "state mouthpiece" according to Elon Musk. Weird, why weren't they promoting Trump when he was in charge then, if they are "state media?"
