[twitter]https://x.com/jonlemire/status/2030961851085803996?s=46&t=kf1qYlCXQnKgUhJWEIu2vg[/twitter]
I've been waiting for someone to post about this. I'm obsessed with this story. I cannot understand why these men are so willing to utterly debase themselves in the service of Donald Trump. It's just humiliating.
For sure. The photo of Rubio wearing these shoes, which are obviously a couple sizes too big is both hilarious and incredibly disheartening.
Rubio is not a stupid man, so how much does it crush him to have sold his soul to Trump and kowtow to him?
Rubio is a ruthless, power hungry man who wants to be the next president. He will do whatever it takes for power even if it means wearing ill-fitting shoes.
Nah. He’s a weak sycophant. If he were actually ruthless, he’d be persuading the rest of the Cabinet to 25 Trump. It’s clear Trump is not compos mentis and Rubio could get a majority of the Cabinet to agree. Hegseth would probably be the only holdout. Congress would agree also. Trump has become a huge liability.
He's only a liability when the base stops supporting him. That hasn't happened yet.
The Trump era GOP base supported him throughout his 1st term and yet Trump's low approval ratings caused him to be a liability to his party. The Dem base continued to support Biden throughout his term and yet his low approval numbers caused him to be a liability to his party. When presidents are unpopular to the extent they become a liability to their party, it's because they've lost a large percentage of the swing vote who either won't vote or will cast a vote for change. The GOP and Dem bases continue to be reliable in their partisan support. It's the true swing voter 10% of the electorate who determine elections and when the POTUS approval rating is consistently around 40% or below, the POTUS has lost that swing vote and they're party suffers.
While this is true, a lot of Republicans are in relatively safe seats (the average margin of victory for the House, both R and D in 2024 is something like 28 percent). For them, the bigger challenge is to make sure that they are not primaried because the winner of the primary will get elected. With the base still not parting ways with Trump, if they don't kiss his behind, they're toast in the primaries.
