Why don’t you be a little clearer on who you heard this information from. Is it from the parent who hates FCV, from another parent, from a coach at FCV, or just an idea that popped into your head because you thought it would be interesting to stir the pot with unsubstantiated rumors? Maybe you right?
well, aren't you just an angry ball of hate? Ask FCV; this comes from a director of another club here in town. I am sure they got the same email. Is there a way to share screenshots on here? I am happy to share what I received but can't seem to find a way to embed it. Or since you can't seem to respond without such aggression, maybe just wait for the GA to publically announce it, then be thankful this is an anonymous forum so you don't look as silly.
Correct me if I am wrong, but a team can still qualify through regular season play, correct? It would be really sad that the players who stayed at FCV get penalized for the actions of those who left before the end this past year and refused to travel. Would they really keep a team from going if the team could show the quality of play to be there?
Yes they qualify for the following season through regular season play - that's how Champions Cup is. Fall 2023/Spring 2024 Final Club Standings = Fall 2024/Spring 2025 Season Champions Cup. so if what was said is true, FCV would have to re-earn Champions Cup next season but they wouldn't get it until the 2025/2026 season.
It’s actually not that big a deal to be in Champions Cup. All of the Champions Cup events are also showcases, so any team U15+ can go. They won’t miss out on anything.
If you don't know what you're talking about, please don't say anything. It is a big deal because if your team doesn't make the GA playoffs, this is a major recruiting event. The more you go to, the more opportunities your DD will have to be seen by the college she wants to go to. Champions Cup events are NOT showcases, Winter Showcase determines seeding for Spring Champions Cup tournament. The championship games determines 1st and 2nd place, the 3rd place match determines 3rd and 4th overall, etc. etc., all the way down to the 15th/16th match. Only 16 clubs can attend plus (4) wild cards in U14 - U19 - so again not any team can go.
The event in December is absolutely a showcase. It's literally called Winter Showcase & Champions Cup. https://girlsacademyleague.com/winter-showcase/ Yes, the Spring Champions Cup tournament in March in FL is Champions Cup only. But, there is another event the next month called Spring Showcase in NC which is for all the non-Champions Cup teams. https://girlsacademyleague.com/spring-showcase/. Click on the attending scouts list you'll see it's just as well attended by college coaches as the Champions Cup only event the month before. None of the champions cup teams go to both the March and April events. So, all teams have the same number of opportunities to play in national events. Champions cup teams play in December, March, and June. Non-Champions cup teams play in December, April, and June. The June event is the playoffs for teams that qualify, but also a Showcase for teams that don't. Non-Champions Cup teams have the exact same number of national events as Champions Cup teams, at the exact same complexes and fields. Clubs are counting on gullible parents like you to fall for the Champions Cup marketing. Colleges recruit players not teams at these events. All of the games are at the same complex. College coaches do not care if the team is in Champions Cup.
100% Here is the schedule with 60 non-champions club teams that somehow managed to attend your Champions Club only event in FL in December https://system.gotsport.com/org_event/events/27835/schedules?group=237504 Champions Club designation only matters to clubs to help their marketing
Well first off it wasn't in FL in December, so you're already starting off wrong. The winter showcase and champions cup are two different events held at the same place at the same time - i know that might be a hard concept to grasp but it happens. Just look at the schedule it's clearly posted that there is a U15 Champions Cup and U15 Showcase - different teams, different schedules. Show me where any of those showcase teams played in Florida in March? I'll wait
Arguing about Champion Cup vs non-champions cup events and which one is "better" is asinine. How "good" an event is for college recruiting is determined at the INDIVIDUAL player level (it will be different for every player on the team and club) - if my DD wants to go to Ohio State, or Alabama or Stanford - the "best" tournament is the tournament that those coaches are going to be at - it doesn't matter if it's GA Championship Cup, GA Playoffs, Winter Showcase, Spring Showcase, etc.
If you don't think the level of teams playing (and hence the players) greatly impacts the number (and level) of college coaches watching games, then we can't help you.
What does the number or level of colleges at any event matter to me as a parent if my DD doesn't want to go to any of those schools? If my DD wants to the University of Whatever and they're going to be at the less prestigious Tournament B then i want our team to go to Tournament B and I don't care that there is going to be over 300 college coaches at Tournament A
You are 100% correct. I would venture a guess that most, however, would shoot for the larger number/high quality schools route versus the individually targeted school option. But yes, if your specific kid only wants X school and they are at Showcase B, then that's more appropriate for you for sure. Though if your kid is targeting one particular school, unless you have some hook there, I think you'll be disaapointed in the outcome of that plan.
I'll tell that to my older DD that graduated and went to college on a 75% athletic (soccer) scholarship, thanks for the sage wisdom you've forever opened my eyes
