The white dad is an addict too or at least headed that way with booze (we have no idea of he really stays sober yet), the one with the internal drive and natural abilities is the black son and they make it clear it's pretty innate compared to Kevin. I think they are legit trying to talk about this aside from typical tropes. they nmight very well fail (I have no idea if there are any minority perspectives at the helm of the show like there should be on all shows but obviously aren't!) but I think its too quick to dismiss[/quote]
