Not defending Lochte. Who knows what the hell he was doing? But, if I were the two detained swimmers, I would tell Brazil whatever it wanted to hear so I could go home.

Even if Lochte made up the whole thing (there was no gun and no money taken), Brazil comes off so poorly in this whole affair. We are talking about some dumb fucking jocks who never even tried to pursue charges; there was no need to turn it into a major international incident like this. [/quote]

Agreed. Lochte and pals come off as douchebag American jocks who think they can do what they want in other countries and get away with it. We have enough of a reputation of that as a country politically speaking, and an occasion where countries are supposed to represent some of their their best representatives, this looks terrible for Americans, and how Americans are perceived overall, but especially as travelers/tourists.
