I find it very weird meeting up with somebody from work world after a few months and they are suddenly skinny. So weird.
I remember coming back to school after summer break last year and seeing a bunch of moms at pickup who obviously lost a ton of weight. Are you supposed to tell them they look great? Say nothing? I just ignore it but it seems odd when they look totally different. If they made a drastic hair change you'd mention but this we're supposed to pretend we don't see it? Same with face lifts and plastic surgery. It's awkward when people drastically change their look and nothing is ever said.
I have lost a lot of weight. Please say nothing. Commenting on weight is very rude. You finding it "awkward when people drastically change their look and nothing is ever said" is a you problem.
DP - I will always take "You look great." I've gone through a lot over the last decade and losing weight and feeling strong and good about myself is something I don't mind having recognized.
You can "take" whatever you want. That doesn't change the fact that it is extremely rude to comment on someone's weight. Whether well-intentioned, or not. Whether the person likes it, or not.
