I think this entire thread is based on the wrong premise and a misunderstanding of what SJC football is planning to do. A person I know who is close to the AD said that what is actually happening is the following: - Varsity 1 team: no change...this team will continue to play in the WCAC "A" league (Gonzaga, Dematha, GC and McNamara) plus a national schedule...the same thing they have been doing for at least 6+ years - New V2 team: call it an elevated JV team that will now play some Varsity games in the WCAC "B" league...BI, PVI, O'Connell...as well as JV games against the A League schools I think the GC transfers had nothing to do with the change in the SCJ football model, and everything to do with the GC coach moving to SJC.
If that’s the plan, I think that’s fantastic. My DS plays a different sport at a different WCAC school. He’s an outstanding player and has gotten a good amount of playing time on the JV team. He has played travel in his sport since early elementary and would love to possibly play D3 in college. But, he’s already stressed about making varsity next year given how few spots there are, how many juniors were cut this year, and how competitive the level of play is. He would be thrilled if his school offered an option like this. I really wish more of the WCAC schools would consider this.
