It’s all about the tuition, which is a lot lower than any other option.

That just tells you that there are a lot of high caliber students who apply to UMD as a backup.   But, even though "a lot of kids" go elsewhere, a lot still want to go to UMD enough so that almost no one gets off the waitlist, if they even have one.

UMD is ranked pretty high considering it also tries to serve first gen/low income students.[/quote]
