I fully get what people are saying about Overton and his past misdeeds and any weaknesses in character, but the people claiming STJ shouldn't be considered as one of the top football programs in the area are delusional.
Belt was put to their behinds last night in Baltimore.
Yep, 35-0 loss to St Frances. But St Frances is ranked #2 in the country according to Max Reps.
Then it should have been a better game, shouldn't it? You only have to read a post further up this page to see someone saying this team will be going after a national championship. It doesn’t have to "take time." When you are running a program in the manner this one is being run you can bring in the players needed from day one.[/quote] So, St. Frances is now officially the #1 program in the country. However, all the schools in the top 20 are running their programs similarly. Bringing in top players with weak academic credentials to ensure their teams are football powerhouses. It's not like SJA is some totally unique school in this regard...there is brutal HS competition for these players, similarly to colleges recruiting talent.
The players have weak academic credentials?
Don't be daft, let's call a spade a spade. 3 hours a day of online schooling does not exactly shout strong academics. Not the players fault though, the families are just going all in on athletics.
The fact that Saint James doesn’t provide a comprehensive and rigorous academic program doesn’t mean the students have weak academic credentials. The students come from all over the DMV. They come from up and down the east coast. Many were at rigorous schools before and should already have a solid academic foundation.
Dexter Manley graduated from Oklahoma State University. He should not have been functionally illiterate but he was. Attending, and even graduating, from a "rigorous" school does not mean you have "a solid academic foundation."
