The top 5% of students in our local public and private high schools might hopefully be admitted to any of those three, but it's not near a certainty like UMass Amherst (which is a fine option, but a very different experience). The cost difference is at most 45k/year and for most normal kids not going to be that extreme. I probably know 10 families with kids at those schools and only a couple are full-pay. For most of the others it's a stretch above in-state tuition, but not a mighty one. [/quote]
