They are hanging around the tourist areas which have significantly less crime than other parts of the city and setting up checkpoints in parts of NW to catch undocumented immigrants. They aren’t on patrol in Wards 7 or 8. Picking up trash in the federal parks and riding around the Mall on horseback isn’t doing a damn thing about gun violence.[/quote]

Did you actually read the full article??  The only high-crime deployment area they mention is the U Street NW coridoor.

Actually, they are in Anacostia.  Also I saw them in Lincoln Park at 12th street SE last evening.  Residents actually can go out in the early evening and walk in the parks.[/quote]
