Because it’s true. These schools are much better known than Vandy for Engineering and CS. And obviously Carnegie Mellon and Cornell. But Vandy is a solid choice if you don’t get into any of these. [/quote]

Actually, most kids I know who apply to a top 20 private and Ga Tech and are accepted to both, pick the top 20 private even though they are ranked lower in STEM.

However, these kids also aren’t bent on just working in tech, but may want to work in finance or other areas [b]yet don’t feel like Tech does much for them in those areas nor do they think it will be a problem working at FAANG either.[/b]

So…you listed quant rankings…and what’s interesting is both Penn and Chicago were actually ranked higher…yet Penn and Chicago have way more graduates working in quant but also way more working in portfolio management at hedge funds which actually employs more people than the pure quant funds.

Not to mention STEM kids at say Penn or Chicago can choose to work for MBB or banking or PE or VC.

Finally, FAANG recruits tons of kids from those schools as well…so if you want to work at FAANG, then lots of options too.

Ga Tech is great, but there are many kids opting for other top privates over Ga Tech.[/quote]
