Neither you nor anyone else has any idea whether this is true or not. “The economy” is far too big and complex to be reduced to something this simple.

RTO is better for CRE, urban area businesses like restaurants and coffee shops, people who sell gasoline and parking spots. It’s bad for exurban restaurants and coffee shops, home prices, and all kinds of IT that sprung up at warp speed to facilitate remote comms. It also intrinsically results in a massive inefficiency in actual commute time.

And who knows what the long-term benefits may be to the economy may be of a generation of American kids who have the benefit of growing up with one or even both parents at home before and after school every day? It’s a back door solution to “latchkey kids” and the “breakdown of the American family” many prattle on about.

As it happens I don’t give a first or second F about bolstering “the economy” by driving around like a moron. WFH has been great for our family and for our lives, so that’s what we’ll keep doing. [/quote]
