The House and senate could have already passed the bill Trump tanked last year on immigration. Why haven't they?
It was a bad bill. It would grant amnesty to lots of illegals, allows thousands to cross the border daily, etc. It was just a cynical campaign trick by Dems, not an actual tough on the border bill.
That is untrue. It DID NOT grant amnesty and did not "allow" thousands to cross the border, what it did was give CBP authority to unilaterally shut down the border if they were seeing thousands attempting to cross, the number was based on their detention capabilities. Your lies about the Bipartisan Border Bill were a cynical trick by Republicans, who grossly lied and misrepresented it. The Lankford Bipartisan Border bill has several strengths: Enhanced Border Security: The bill provides funding to build more border barriers, increase technology at the border, and add more detention beds, agents, and deportation flights. It also increased resources for detecting fentanyl and other drugs at points of entry, whereas the House bill did not even have a single mention of fentanyl. Improved Asylum Process: It aims to end the abuse of parole on the southwest border and dramatically changes asylum laws by conducting fast screenings with a higher standard of evidence, limited appeals, and fast deportation. Emergency Authorities: The bill includes new emergency authorities to shut down the border when it is overrun, new hiring authorities to quickly increase officers, and new hearing authorities to quickly apply consequences for illegal crossings. Detain and Deport Policy: It shifts the border policy from "catch and release" to "detain and deport," aiming to reduce the number of illegal crossings. Whoever told you it would grant mass amnesty and so on is not a credible or reliable source of information and I would recommend no longer using it.
