There are 9.721 million people in Los Angeles County and 18.4 million in the metropolitan area. Focusing on a single crime is both ignorant and stupid (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_cities_by_crime_rate). Oh look at that, Los Angeles is 63rd in murders and non-negligent manslaughter per capita -- behind such red state luminaries as Mobile (11th), Tulsa (18th), Louisville (24th), Des Moines (31st), Oklahoma City (34th), Anchorage (46th), Wichita (49th) and on par with another apparent "urban hellhole" that is Omaha, Nebraska (64th).
