Social Sciences are good at Rice but it is not its strength. Though Rice has Baker and Kinder Institutes which opens up amazing social science research opportunities at the undergrad level. Lot of universities have research but it is important to see whether undergrads can access these-at Rice you can. But you have to look at other factors and decide--undergrad quality of life is very different at Columbia and Rice. Rice gives a easier transition and is designed for a undergrad community. It has an intimate and friendly campus. OP, you have to decide what is a good fit for your child. [/quote]
