In our experience as legacy families, it is all about money and in terms of BIG BUCKs. like 7 to 8 digits. We never could afford to give that much and SURPRISE DS didn't get in as a EA applicant and triple legacy
That’s on your kid. It can’t be all about legacy and 7 or 8 figures. The legacy pool isn’t that wealthy.
No, it wasn't. first in their class. 36 ACT. etc. etc. etc. Eagle scout. He had everything but our family can't afford donations like that. He was a legacy through me at Harvard. Triple legacy at Yale, including faculty (tenured) and tenured faculty advocating with admissions. Didn't help They don't want white kids from an alleged "privileged bACKGROUND". HOW DO YOU NOT KNOW THIS?
It is definitely not about 7 or 8 figures. Our legacy (1 parent) along with $500 - $1000 donations most years, but not even all years, was enough. HS are very different and Yale may know/think that your kid's school is not very rigorous so first in class means nothing really. Quit making excuses for your kid. Not all legacies are admitted. Sometimes their ECs are Tier 4 (varsity this, varsity that, participate here and there type of thing is not enough, this is Yale. Eagle scout is nice, but nothing to brag about really)
Yes. My white MC kids were admitted to some Ivies and not to others. No hooks. Most kids at the Ivy campuses were white and Asian. To the other posters, please stop spinning this political propaganda that URMs or certain ethnicities are getting in in droves while the poor white kids get iced out. It's just not true. Either someone has bought into fake news because they are hurting for their kid. or someone is an active political (paid?) poster here. This is the next frontier for the political trolling I guess. First emails, then fb/IG, now chatboards about college. Very tired of people stoking some reverse racism notion. Ugh.
