It helps VT to know some acceptances early so they can better manage yield. It helps students to know earlier so they can make a decision, especially if VT is their first choice.
This is true, but I think given the delayed FAFSA situation this year, quite a few kids may wait until May 1 to inform schools. My DC was at a large party Friday night. Three students who were accepted have already decided they won't attend VT (UGA, TN or Clemson and UVA), but didn't have plans to notify VT until their deadline. My DC also said quite a few kids were annoyed with the recent email and mid Feb notice. It sounds like many thought/hoped decisions would be released earlier given the lack of ED. I wonder if this confusing approach will hurt VT's yield.
What made them think decisions would be earlier, considering EA at VT has always come out in Feb? Your story sounds completely made up. No doubt it is *you* who is still annoyed and complaining about this nonissue.
Because this year IS different. If you had been following along with what is happening at VT there is no more ED so all they have early is EA. It makes sense that they would respond sooner since they don’t have to do ED.
Of course I've been "following along"! I'm on this thread, waiting anxiously along with all the other parents here. The point is that because there IS no more ED, then it makes since to assume that all EA decisions would now be coming out at the usual EA time (Feb). That they've started releasing some decisions is a bonus. Not sure why some parents have their nose out of joint about it. We would love to hear early, but will plan on February.
