When I moved to America, I started using paper plates and plastic cutlery. This is just not done in Canada, especially Vancouver. I don’t care. I’m so excited to just throw away my plates. I work long hours and this is just really lovely. I love Americans for bringing this lazy habit into my life.
I actually don't like the feel of paper and plastic disposable plates and cutlery. It feels poor and sad and it degrades the experience of eating. Food and entertaining is big in our family, so after putting in the work of buying the freshest ingredients and cooking a delicious meal, why would I crap on it by serving it in disposable plates? when I moved to America, I had the money and space in my kitchen to buy 50 identical place settings, cutlery, drinkware etc and now I use that only. I never run out of plates, glass, cups etc and I even entertain using the same dishes. It has been many years since I have had more than 40-50 people over for meals at one time. My American indulgence is running my dishwasher all the time and at any time. Thankfully, we have solar panels and so I do not feel too bad.
